Company Story
Incorporated in summer 2006, TOMMIE Systems Limited is the product of a demerger from Monitor Media, a long established and highly respected web development company based in Surrey, England. It was actually Monitor Media that originally developed TOMMIE back in 2000. Since then TOMMIE has been constantly refined, improved and grown, but as Monitor Media's bespoke web application development work for blue chip clients also grew, the decision was taken to formally and legally separate the two lines of business, for the greater good of both - hence the demerger
TOMMIE Systems is now a successful company in its own right, pleased to retain extremely robust links with Monitor Media. The two companies share the same strong management team, the same share ownership structure, even the same premises.
Whilst TOMMIE is presently our only product, we have exciting plans for launching an additional office admin product in 2008.
This will be a close strategic fit with our existing web-based office admin system, and a logical and welcome addition to the family.
Meet The Team
The team of extremely talented individuals at TOMMIE is led by a heavyweight trio of seasoned web professionals:
Robert Simmons, BA Hons
Co-Founder and CEO
After graduating in Business Studies with Marketing, Robert spent most of the 80's agency side, account directing Sony and Guinness amongst others, helping launch disruptive and market changing products like Handycam and Draught Guinness in Cans. In the early 90's he worked as an independent marketing consultant before co-founding Monitor Media in 1995. A strong, profitable and multi-award winning company, and one with considerable commercial and strategic insight, Monitor Media remains in the Top 20 UK design and build agencies, producing sophisticated websites and online applications for blue chip enterprises such as Royal Bank of Scotland, Coca-Cola, Michelin, Alpha Airports Group and BAA, to name but a few. Supported by a growing management team, Robert continues as CEO for Monitor Media and, since the 2006 demerger, now has the same responsibility for TOMMIE Systems.
Paul Trickey, B Tech Hons, MSc.
Co-Founder and Development Director
Graduating in Aeronautical Engineering and then specialising in computer sciences, Paul joined bespoke software giant Logica in the mid 80s. Rapid promotion to Principal Consultant followed notable successes in the computer-controlled automation of production lines for Jaguar cars, British Shoe Corporation and Merck Sharp and Dohme. In January 1995 he co-founded Monitor Media with Robert. Since then he has been responsible for the development of many substantial, award-winning websites offering genuine innovation and advanced functionality. The world's first online meal ordering system for airlines; the world's first customisable board game for Hasbro; the world's first online data service for the petroleum industry - all were truly disruptive. Paul continues as Development Director for Monitor Media and, since the 2006 demerger, now has the same responsibility for TOMMIE Systems.
Iain Frerichs, BA Hons
Co-Founder and CTO
Graduating in Engineering Sciences from the University of Oxford, Iain's first employer of note was Logica. A star programmer,
he was instrumental in setting up and running the main database for the United Nations at just 23 years of age. He went on to be
lead developer for pharmaceutical giants Wellcome and Merck Sharp and Dohme. Iain met Paul whilst working at Logica and was Monitor
Media's first recruit back in 1996. Since then Iain has been responsible for the technology and security behind major e-commerce
websites for, amongst others, RBS Insurance, Coca-Cola, Alpha Airports Group and Michelin. He is also expert in the design and build of
powerful, robust, scalable web hosting solutions. Iain continues as CTO for Monitor Media and, since the 2006 demerger, now has the same
responsibility for TOMMIE Systems.
Information Security and Quality Standards
Issues of quality and excellence are of paramount importance in all that we do. Every part of every system has been developed and refined with integrity and robustness front of mind. We subject ourselves to tough scrutiny from no less a body than the British Standards Institute (BSI). We are proud to hold ISO27001, the global standard for Information Security, and shortly hope to be awarded ISO90001 for the quality of our management systems.
